These are monoclonal antibody injections that last 4-6 weeks in the dog’s system. This targets signals that cause a dog to lick, chew and scratch, thus allowing the skin to heal and control self trauma that dogs continuously do when they have allergies.

What we do to help allergies?

-Cytopoint injection (see handout)

-Steroid injection and topical treatment

-Antibiotic injection and topical treatment

-Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory medications

These can be monoclonal antibody injections, anti-inflammatory medications such as NSAIDs or steroids. This targets signals that cause a dog to lick, chew and scratch, thus allowing the skin to heal and control self trauma that dogs continuously do when they have allergies. Most cases with a secondary bacterial infections will be given antibiotics to help control the infection. We may recommend skin cultures if there is suspicion of bacterial resistance especially for chronic skin issues. .
